Youth Art Month - State and District

MARCH is Youth Art Month

We are so lucky to have opportunities to show student artwork at various shows throughout the year. Chelmsford participates in two Youth Art Month shows during the month of March:

Massachusetts Art Education Association sponsors it's state-wide YAM show at the State Transportation Building in Boston through the end of March. The family celebration for chosen artists will be held on Sunday, February 28th! Here are the beautiful artworks for display in Boston!

MAEA Youth Art Month Artists: Abigail Kenyon, Katherine Lesire, Luke Murray, Hadley Myler, Kyle Pinto, Ryan Spooner.

Abby Kenyon's "Urban Birds" print has earned national recognition from the Massachusetts Art Education Association. Her work will be representing Massachusetts as our Grade 2 Artist at the National Art Education Association conference in Chicago this March!

Congratulations Abby!

Chelmsford District-wide Youth Art Month Show opening will be at the Adams Library on the evening of March 2nd and will be on view until the end of March. I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of our Harrington selections!

4th Grade Picasso Cubist Roosters

Pastel and Oil Crayon on Black Paper

My students had such fun creating these rooster characters, but I think it was even more fun for me to see all their creative responses around the room while they were working!

A Sampling of Our Work

1st Grade Fall Leave Tissue Paper Collage
3rd Grade Picasso Cubist Faces
Created prior to our "Picasso People" Enrichment Program
Kindergarten students listened to music while painting and printing circles similar to Vassily Kandinsky's "Squares with Concentric Circles" painting. I read "The Noisy Paintbox" which tells about Kandinsky's artistic trajectory.
3rd Grade Mixed Media study of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. I recently learned that I went to high school in the Berkshires with Munch's cousin Stephanie!

Some of my own work

This is a mask I created to show my students how one artwork can inspire another artistic response.
Can you tell that Vincent vanGogh's Starry Night is one of my favorite master artworks?

A painting for the first show I ever exhibited in.
The cupcake is sitting on the china given to me by a dear neighbor.

Another Cupcake from my first show!

A painting of my favorite tree in Rochester, NY in a park where my daughter ran during college at RIT. The tree was stuck by lightning shortly after her graduation so I was very glad to have this memory!

A fiber art character I created while at a National Art Ed Association conference in NYC.

Urban Art Sightings

and created shortly after debut of the "Lego" movie.
Brazillian Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo
(identical twins known as Os Gemeos)
created these two murals.

These Murals are across from Legal Seafood in the Park Square area, Boston. Os Gemeos hopes their murals will bring color and energy to the streets of Boston as well as inspire curiosity and imagination.
